How to collect and identify the authenticity of agarwood

It is difficult to decide, so it is necessary to learn some knowledge to distinguish natural agarwood from fake agarwood.

As the name suggests, agarwood is both heavy and fragrant. In some ancient and modern “incense seats”, the fragrance of agarwood is the first. The fragrance of agarwood is a light natural fragrance, like elegant floral fragrance, cool mint fragrance, fresh smell in ancient forests, and an indescribable Chinese medicine fragrance… It makes people feel comfortable, makes people daydream, and can’t let go.

The following four steps are the basic identification methods

Look: Agarwood with fine pores on the surface is A-grade, and those with large pores are B-grade. A-grade water agarwood is generally dark brown, but not black, and there are also dark green and yellow.

Smell: This is the most important identification method. Generally, agarwood has a familiar Chinese medicine smell at the beginning, and it is an indescribable smell when you smell it carefully. People’s sense of smell is different, so the smell varies from person to person and depends heavily on experience.

Touch: There is a layer of oil on the surface of water agarwood, but it does not make your hands dirty (your hands will not feel greasy), but if it is a fake, the oil will leave a dirty mark on your hands.

Look at the price: In the current market, if a real agarwood is priced below 50,000, it is basically not a real one.

There are many origins of agarwood, and the quality of agarwood in each origin is good or bad, and it is difficult to compare. There are many top-grade agarwoods in Vietnam, and there are also very low-grade quality, and the same is true for agarwoods in other origins. The most important thing to identify the grade of agarwood is to see how much oil it contains and the quality of its fragrance. The higher the amount of fat in each piece of agarwood, the stronger the fragrance should be. In addition, when identifying agarwood, it is best to look at the spot and see how the quality of the spot is. In addition to the amount of fat, you also need to look at the fat line. According to experience, most of the materials in Vietnam are harder, the fat is distributed in a tangled form, and the volume of agarwood with a large oil content will definitely not be very large. The large materials in Indonesia are loose in texture, but the high-grade fat is also very hard. Many high-grade agarwoods have similar appearances, so it is difficult to distinguish them, but the smell cannot be changed. Regarding this, you have to practice more, smell more, and rely on experience.
